Top Teams Struggle Early In The English Premier League

English Premier League 2015

Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United. Do you see their performances as that of a winner of the Premier League? It is quite disappointing to say, but none of them have been good enough or maybe their opponents have transformed and now compete with them at the top of their game (with full credit to the sides).

Premier League Champions 2014-15: Chelsea

Let us look at some of the problems these clubs are facing:

Chelsea suffer Red-Card syndrome

The defending Champions Chelsea has one of the most well-balanced squad to suit the requirements, but they have been unable to repay their manager’s faith. Also surrounded by unwanted scenarios, whether it is Mourinho’s comments about team Physio’s treatment of Eden Hazard against Swansea or a dismal showing at the Etihad stadium in the following week.

And, in just three matches two Chelsea players have already received the red card from the referee adding to their woes. First, their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and now team captain John Terry.

Clearly, that is not what a manager would want to start their Premier League campaign. However, with the addition of Barcelona forward Pedro the team has received an added boost in their attack as he provided with an assist and a goal in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over West Brom this week.

Manchester United in a striker crisis

The red devils have not lost a game, neither have they won convincingly. A goal-less draw against New Castle at Old Trafford probably sums it all, the magpies goalkeeper had a big hand to play in the goal-less draw. However, United have failed to create enough scoring opportunities. Captain and forward Wayne Rooney too seems to have reached the depths of his thinking hat, unable to create or score any goals for the club.

Understandably, Manchester United find themselves in need of a striker, more so after their prospective transfer target Pedro found greener pastures at the Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal is just being average

Having begun their campaign with a loss at home against West Ham is disappointing. But, their form is never spectacular early in the season. As August is almost reaching its end, Gunners are still to display their potential. In three games, Arsenal managed a win, a draw and a loss.

But, the good news is Arsenal signing of the summer Petr Cech had a splendid night at the Emirates when Liverpool came hunting for their third win in this season’s second big fixture (after opening week Man U vs Tottenham). The Arsenal goalkeeper stood like a wall, denying the reds to taking full three points from the fixture.
