“The Danish Girl” First Official Trailer Starring Eddie Redmayne Out Now

The official Trailer of “The Danish Girl” has been released by Focus Features, starring Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything) and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) from Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) and based on the book by David Ebershoff, with screenplay by Lucinda Coxon.

The film’s cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts (The Drop), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall), and Amber Heard (The Rum Diary).

The film is going to be screened in the main section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival and in the Special Presentation section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

The story goes back in the early 1920s Copenhagen where the illustrator and artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) asks her husband, Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) to stand in for a female model. The popularity of the portraits leads to Gerda painting her husband in further pictures as a woman. Einar develops an attraction for a female physical appearance and begins living as a woman named Lili Elbe.

Ultimately Elbe becomes the first ever recipient of male to female sex reassignment surgery, and Gerda supports her decision, although their marriage becomes strained when Gerda comes to the realization that Lili is no longer the person she married. A childhood friend of Einar, Hans Axgil (Matthias Schoenaerts), shows up and forms a complex love triangle with the couple.

“When I first read the script, I wept three times,” Hooper (Les Miserables) said. “It connected to me in similar ways to The King’s Speech, where a man is locked in his body by a stammer and he’s helped by a tender friendship. With Lili I was moved by the power of love as an agent of transformation, even when the world was against it.”

The film was projected to commence in Spring 2010 in Berlin, but filming began in February 2015, where Redmayne was spotted on set. On March 31, 2015, Redmayne was spotted filming a fight scene. The production of the film concluded on April 12, 2015.

Redmayne as Lili Elbe was first seen on February 26, 2015. Posters of Redmayne and Vikander were released in August, ahead of the film’s premiere in Venice.

The Film is set to release on November 27, 2015.

The Danish Girl is set to first release in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, and later expands to additional cities in December.
