Super Bowl Shocker As Eagles Soar To First Championship

Quarter back Nick Foles played out of his skin to steer the Philadelphia Eagles to a shock win against fancied New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52.

The Eagles triumphed 41-33 by battering the Patriots at their own game with an almost non-stop offensive pinning them in their own half.

The stage had already been set for favourites New England to claim their sixth super bowl – which would have set a record and cemented star Tom Brady as the best quarterback of all-time.

But the eagles, led by Foles, refused to play second fiddle, ripping up the script and playing their own game.

Remarkable come-back

Even with a couple of minutes to go, the crowd were expecting the Patriots to come back from five points down in a repeat of how the fourth quarter closed last year.

It was not to be. Foles had the game of his life, throwing 373 yards, and was named most valuable player.

He also became the first player to throw and catch a touchdown at a super bowl when he started off a move with that ended with him catching a pass from tight end Trey Burton.

The super bowl capped a remarkable come-back from Foles, 29, who was called into action to replace the injured Carson Wentz only three games back.

Brilliant game

Brady also had his usual brilliant game, topping 505 yards of passing with three touchdown throws – a super bowl record. But another record saw them gain more than 600 yards and still lose, while the Eagles became the team to concede the most points while still winning.

The quarter back also set a record for throwing 18 touchdowns in his eighth super bowl appearance.

Another notable statistic was LeGarratte Blount took a super medal for two years’ in a row but winning with different teams. Although he is an Eagle this year, last year, he turned out for Atlanta Falcons.

“I felt calm all night. We are such a great group of guys. We felt confident. We just went out there and played football. We’ve been dreaming of this since we were little kids,” said Foles after the game.
