Sunset Woman Stabbed and Policeman Shot

On Wednesday, a Sunset woman was stabbed to death and a police officer was also shot and killed in an incident which took place at an Anne Street home. Suspect was arrested and he is identified as Harrison Lee Wiley Jr. who is 35 years old and had been living in Arnaudville.

As said by St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, there were three people who were stabbed at 121 Anne St. in Sunset at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Shameka Johnson of Sunset who was one of those three unfortunate people, died from the injuries, Guidroz added. She was 40 years old lady

Shameka is the sister of Shaterral Johnson who is the interim mayor of Grand Coteau.

Surlay Johnson, 34 who is the another sister of the mayor, was also stabbed and was in critical condition Wednesday night at Lafayette General Medical Center, as said by Guidroz.

Guidroz also said, “Sunset Police Officer Henry Nelson, 52, was shot and killed when he responded to the incident. Riley, who faces murder charges, is his cousin, the Associated Press reported. Riley was under arrest at a hospital Thursday”.

Courtney Jolivette, the suspect’s wife, was also been stabbed in the incident. Wednesday evening, she was taken to Alexandria Medical Center, where she was undergoing surgery.

The suspect appeared to be high on drugs, as said by police.

Guidroz said, after the stabbing and shooting on Anne Street, the suspect drove his car through the front of the store and barricaded himself inside an office.

Police used tear gas to try to flush the suspect out of the office.

The suspect was taken to a Lafayette hospital and he has an extensive criminal history, as said by Guidroz.

The store was reportedly on fire by 8pm, but the blaze had been extinguished.
