‘Mr. Robot’ Acquired By Amazon For Online Viewing

As online television is steering its way into the mainstream, more and more people are taking the route. We saw the online streaming website Netflix hitting the bull’s eyes by producing ‘Sense8’, a science fiction thriller which was however criticised for a slow pace, was a moderate commercial and critical success. Now it’s Amazon’s turn to make the news as USA’s drama ‘Mr. Robot’ is headed towards the web portal for paid viewing. Available for only the prime members, the countries where it will be available are U.S, U.K, Japan, Germany and Austria.

The company has acquired the exclusive right for the viewing of the show which was a commercial and critical success. The announcement was made on Friday as the world is now excited as it is slowly entering into the digital era. The time is not far away when the traditional TV viewing of the shows will be considered ‘old school’.

The world is going through a technological revolution as it is getting used to the internet so much so that the real television is losing its charm. We all know how web series are pouring in everyday on the different video sharing websites and many movies, especially the independent ones, are getting released online rather than in theatres. The times are changing, and with it, the way we see the television.

Under the pact, Amazon Prime will be getting the honour of becoming the exclusive subscription streaming home for ‘Mr. Robot’ beginning this spring. All ten episodes of the series will be available for Amazon Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan and more countries will follow soon. Considering the international appeal of the show and popularity across the world, we can safely assume that Amazon will be earning a hell lot of money out of this collaboration.

Created by Sam Esmail, the show features Rami Malek as a hacker, stereotypically an anti-social one, wishing to somehow overthrow the society and Christian Slater plays a leader of some hacker group who is providing a helping hand to him to achieve his goal. Much dark, so intense but the ‘cool’ quotient is what makes the show a hit among all the different age group audiences and more so, the international appeal of the plot makes the show a success in many countries.

“’Mr. Robot’ is one the most compelling new dramas on television,” said Amazon vp, digital video content acquisition Brad Beale in a statement. “Rami Malek delivers a mesmerizing performance and leads a great cast with an intriguing story full of dark twists. Prime members are going to love binging on this awesome show”, he added while also praising the other cast members as well.

’Mr. Robot’ is a tremendous success and Amazon Prime has provided a great opportunity to make the show even more accessible to audiences,” said NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution president Frances Manfredi.

Well, now we wait.
