Manchester United Succumb Defeat Against PSV

Manchester United have returned to play with the finest clubs in Europe and started with a disaster losing to Dutch team PSV. The English side was taken to be a top contender in winning the group but PSV win shows otherwise.

A year-long break from the Champions League, huge amount of money losses seems to have put too much pressure on Manchester United.

Van Gaal doubt proves true

Just a day before the Champions League, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal stated, “I think the fans shall see a Manchester United who fight for their chances, but we have to show on the pitch if we are able to win matches on the highest level,” Van Gaal said. “That is a challenge for us now.”

In spite of spending over 280 million pounds on new signings Van Gaal doubt does not just prove true, but it adds to United’s nightmare in Europe.

Depay returns to PSV and scores for Manchester United

The deadlock between the two teams was finally broken in the 41st minute with a fantastic goal by Manchester United new boy, Memphis Depay. However, the goal was soon cancelled in the injury time of the first half by Hector Moreno.

Man U maintained good possession of the ball but, playing without the services of captain Wayne Rooney added to the woes of the English club as they failed to create enough chances during the game in spite of dominating on possession.

PSV however, did not do much either. Managing to only cause trouble to David De Gea in the set pieces and a error from Matteo Darmian led to the winner by Luciano Narsingh.

New problems emerge for Manchester United

Apart from the loss, United have two new issues to work on: Luke Shaw suffered a terrible tackle from Hector Moreno that could keep him out of the team for a long stretch of time. Undoubtedly he’s been one of the best for United so far creating more chances than Ashley Young, Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

And, Anthony Martial is not ready for the big league. Scoring a goal on debut is fantastic but living up to the expectations after that is not so easy. Martial suffered the syndrome during United’s clash against PSV as he started the game. However, with time it was found that he too like Rooney loves to stick deep to win possession of the ball rather than just forcing an attack.
