Manchester United new signing Anthony Martial made an appearance from the bench in the 3-1 win over Liverpool. The young striker also managed to notch a goal in the limited opportunity he was offered to impress the manager.
Van Gaal goes Gaga over Anthony Martial
“The goal of Anthony was not a bad goal, I think,” he said.
Well, it was a pretty good solo effort from the youngster who just got off the bench.
“It was also a match for him because Liverpool had to come as we were ahead. He had a lot of space, so it was easier to bring him on. But he did alright – he scored a marvellous goal, and I’ve also seen that physically he can play in the Premier League,” added the Manchester United manager in praise of the youngster’s performance.
However, it is probably too soon to say he’s physically ready for the Premier League having just made a substitute appearance and not much physicality to deal with.
Man United controlled the game against Liverpool
The Man U coach first silenced the critics with a contract extension for David De Gea, undoubtedly their best player in the past few campaigns. Then, sealed it with a fantastic win over arch-rivals Liverpool, thus reassuring faith among the supporters.
The game also saw David De Gea back in the first team, without any further delay and that change in between the sticks made a lot of difference in the Manchester United game. The defense looked more sturdy and ready to counter anything that was hit by the Liverpool forwards.
Looking at the performance some may even say that the scoring problem that was witnessed early on, during this campaign may also have come to an end.
