Jekyll & Hyde’s first look is out, the upcoming 10-part action-adventure drama from ITV Studios. It’s based on the idea given by British actor and author Charlie Higson and inspired by the Robert Louis Stevenson classic.
Jekyll & Hyde is a musical thriller based on the novel The Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Jekyll & Hyde, starring Chuck Wagner, Rebecca Spencer as Emma Carew (then named Lisa) and Linda Eder as Lucy, was first presented at the Alelly Theatre in Houston, Texas in May 1990. It broke all the records, houses were sold-out and won acclaim from critics leading to the run being extended twice, finally closing in July 1990.
The series is infused with mystery, fantasy, horror and sci-fi, starring Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons), Richard E Grant and Coronation Street’s Natalie Gumede.
Joe Haladey said, “We’re really trying to push the boundary of how comfortable you can be in your seat,” The show is opening on Sept. 4 in the guild’s 139-seat arena theater.
“I’ve had a few castmates who weren’t able to keep eye contact for more than four or five seconds when I was Hyde,” he said, referring to the demonic alter-ego of London physician Henry Jekyll in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic thriller, first published in 1886.
On January 21, 2013 it was announced that Mike Medavoy, Rick Nicita and his production company RP Media geared up for making a film version of the show. According to the reports from The New York Times, Wildhorn and Bricusse will play a major role in the film. The producers hope to release the film this year.
It has been noted that the majority of the show’s story has not been changed over the time, but songs have been altered, cut or replaced since the show debuted.
Tom Bateman is playing Jekyll, grandson of the original doctor and, is researching his family history which includes his grandfather’s problem being inherited. Jekyll transforms into Hyde (Hulk like) in moments of extreme anger, stress and when his or the lives of others are threatened.
Richard E Grant heads the secret government department M10.
ITV said: “The drama follows Jekyll’s path to discovery, which coincides with the transformative powers of his condition growing stronger and more disruptive. His journey will take him into a dark and unforgiving place, as his alter ego seems capable of anything. At the same time there are shadowy forces trying to find Jekyll and the source of his powers.”
