If you have nerves of steel and are ready to jump out of a plane to raise money for a good cause, then a charity wants to hear from you.
Christian Aid Ireland wants 30 volunteers to sky dive from 12,000 feet to raise money from sponsorship for projects in Africa and Latin America.
Some of the places are already filled by Mel Wiggins MBE, from Portadown, who won recognition for raising awareness of human trafficking issues in Northern Ireland.
She is joined by friends from Laura Turley, Kerri Todd, Sarah Lennon and Zoe McCandless.
“Christian Aid’s skydive challenge is going to be a massive leap of faith for all of us. None of us have done anything like this before, but it’s made easier knowing that we are doing it with other women and men who are also passionate about this campaign and cause,” said Wiggins.
Match funding
“We are really inspired by Christian Aid’s work to empower women in the developing world and want to be part of showing our support for them. This is our way of standing – or jumping – in solidarity.”
The charity wants sponsors for each skydiver to raise as much money as possible – with every pound donated worth five pounds to Christian Aid thanks to European Union match funding.
The skydives will take place at Wild Geese Skydive, Garvagh, with British Parachute Association certified instructors on September 8 or 29.
Christian Aid Ireland’s, Church and Community Officer, Tim Reynolds, added: “A skydive is on many people’s bucket list. What’s great about this skydive is that you can fulfil one of your bucket list items while raising money for a great cause. Plus, every £1 you raise will be worth £5, thanks to EU match funding. That’s five times the number of lives you can help transform.”
