Manchester City have done great in the English Premier League, but the same cannot be said in the Champions League for them.
Manchester City failed to recreate form in Europe
Another David Silva corner and could have been a third goal this season for Vincent Kompany who jumped higher than Giorgio Chiellini, and what appears to have been a foul ended up in an own goal by the Italian to hand the lead to Manchester CIty. The citizens had the lead and they gave it away.
Such has been the story for the leader of the Premier League in recent years.
City yet to find the success mantra for Champions League, till then Pellegrini’s side would have to be satisfied with EPL success.
“It was a disappointing result,” Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini told reporters after the loss. “I don’t think that we deserved to lose this game. I think that was a typical game for the Champions League. Both teams were guilty that they didn’t create many chances.”
Buffon, Pogba star for Juventus
Minutes later, Buffon came to the rescue for Juventus stopping a one-on-one with Raheem Sterling and a follow-up by David Silva resulting in a remarkable save to keep the Italian side in contest. That was the second time Sterling failed to convert from such an opportunity in the game.
Paul Pogba however kept Juventus on the attack mode, making CIty’s Yaya Toure go deeper in the midfield. Rumoured to be leaving Juventus next summer, Pogba had a point to prove at the Etihad and as the Premier League clubs come howling. However, very few would recall Pogba is a product of Manchester United’s academy who did not receive enough under Sir Alex Ferguson and if he is to return to England, it will be a nightmare for the United faithful.
Pogba was the catalyst in the equalizer that saw Mario Mandzukic with a simple tap-in and his duel against Yaya Toure is one of the highlights of the game. While, Alvaro Morata scored the winner for the Italian side.
